Maintenance Q&A

How do I choose and install wireless vibration sensors?

Choose by frequency range, battery life, wireless range and ingress rating; installation needs no downtime.

What is wireless vibration monitoring, and is it reliable enough for critical machines?

Yes, for condition monitoring. Battery-powered sensors on your machines take vibration and temperature readings at regular intervals and send them over industrial Bluetooth to a gateway and on to the cloud. DHMSCare sensors use industrial-grade Bluetooth 5.0 Class 1: 60–80 m to the gateway inside a plant, 300 m line of sight, and another 50 m with a repeater. They are IP69-rated and work in −40 to 80 °C ambient. DHMSCare watches critical machines with this system, and its alerts are accurate in 90%+ of cases.

How do I choose wireless vibration sensors for predictive maintenance?

Check four things: a frequency range that covers the common fault bands, a long battery life, enough wireless range, and an ingress rating that survives your plant. The DHMSCare DS310 sensor covers 0–6000 Hz (±3 dB) and ±16 g and runs 5 years on its battery after activation. It reaches 60–80 m to the gateway inside a plant on industrial-grade Bluetooth 5.0 Class 1 and is IP69-rated. On this hardware, DHMSCare alerts are accurate in 90%+ of cases.

Are MEMS vibration sensors good enough to catch early bearing faults, or do I need piezoelectric accelerometers?

Yes, for trend monitoring: DHMSCare DS310 and DS311 MEMS sensors, chip-based accelerometers, measure 0–6000 Hz vibration, where bearing wear shows once it starts making impacts; the first surface wear, above 20 kHz, is beyond range. On slow shafts, tell us the shaft speed and DHMSCare confirms the right sensor first.

Online wireless monitoring or handheld data collectors: which is better for a plant with about 100 motors?

For about 100 motors, online wireless monitoring is the better fit. Handheld collectors follow a manual route, take readings less often and miss what changes between visits. Each DHMSCare gateway connects up to 60 sensors, so 100 motors need only a few gateways and you can grow line by line. DHMSCare takes readings on every motor at regular intervals, with alerts accurate in 90%+ of cases.

Do we have to stop the machines to install vibration sensors?

No. DHMSCare sensors bond to the bearing housing with industrial adhesive and pair with a tap of a phone, so the machine keeps running while you install them. DHMSCare installs without downtime, so your plant can deploy while the line keeps producing.
